Obsesssed?

Maplestory is a 2D, online multiplayer online role playing game developed by a South Korean company, Wizet. Although this game is a free onilne game, The creators made it available to players to change their appearance and enhance gameplay by paying real money to customize your character in a store called cash shop. There are over 100 accounts created on Maplestory and more than one million players have purchased items in "cash shop". In the game, players travel the Maple World, defeating monsters, leveling up their characters and develop their character skills and abilities. Players can also interact with each other by chatting, trading and playing minigames. And over the years, players playing this game have been absolutely obsessed with it. People would not eat, sleep or get off the computer until they achieve a certain level. People even steal money from parents and others just to purchase items in this virtual world. This game concerns me is that people are willing to commit crimes and stay on for countless hours just to improve their online characters. Recently they have added a marriage system into the game so that players can get married with each other. They also added something that if you play more 1 hour or more, the game is programed to send you this message "you have played Maplestory for _ hours. please take a break" by adding this they assume that players will take this advice and get off, but they aren't. More and more this game is changing into a reality based game and it worries me because our society will get lazy and treat their Maplestory life as their actual life. Although this game is fun to play, it is corrupting our minds.

A Man's Best Friend

Recently I stumbled across a saying that I hear and see alot but was very confused about, and that is "A Dog is a Man's best friend". Because us as Humans have the tendency to critisize others, be racist, back-stab, commit crimes and murders etc. Dogs are the other hand are very loyal and will protect their owners despite their size. Dogs, unlike most people accept the owner for who they are. It doesn't matter if there is something wrong with you, the only thing a dog sees in you is that how much you mean to him/her. The reason I chose to look into this is because I was wondered if every single human were to be as loyal as dogs, then how much better the world would be. Why is it that humans have to treat others differently because of their differences? is it to make them feel better about themselves? Although I am not a dog lover, I think the job as Man's best friend and to treat them with the respect they deserve is an important one.

King Of Pop?

Michael Jackson was a famous pop artist in the 80's. He was titled King of Pop for his hits such as Thriller, Billie Jean and Beat it.  He was also known for his moon walk and was also recognized as the most successful entertainer of all time by Guinness World Records. When the buzz on Michael Jackson was slowly dying out, Michael Jackson was made of because of bleach damaged skin and the accusation of a tabloid rumor that he sexually molested a 13 year old boy. Because of these tabloid rumors the media would stop at nothing to get a story baout Michael Jackson, more and more the media printed lies about this pop artist. But on June, 25, 2009 Michael Jackson passed away becuase of a drug overdosed and everyone was devestated. After the death of the pop star everything changed, the media started to cherish his remarks and treating Michael Jackson again, as the King of Pop after being moched for years. The reason I chose to write about Michael Jackson was because the fact that they chose to see Michael Jackson for who he really is when he died. Why is that after he passed away the media and society forgives themselves and start to admire him again?

TRON: Legacy

Tron is based on a video game created in the 1980's. Tron: Legacy is a recreaton of the movie created by Disney in the early 1980's. Tron is about a software engineer named Kevin Flynn, CEO of ENCOM who disappears in 1989. 20 years later, his son Sam Flynn who later became the company's controlling shareholder takes some interest in the the company. Sam is later on visited by his fathers friend Alan Bradley  (ENCOM executive) who convinces Sam to investigate a mysterious message originated from his fathers arcade. Sam then finds a hidden computer labratory that belonged to his fathers and he accidently warps himself into the Grid, a virtual world inside the computer. After watching this movie, I immediately thought about how our society is affected by technology. In the movie, Sam Flynn gets helplessly warped into a world of virtuality and this made me think about our society becoming too reliable on technology. I think that this movie reflects on the everyday use of technology and how our lives are too dependant on technology.
